Advancing Growing Stronger (AGS)

Airports are required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to create a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which is used as the Airport’s primary planning tool for future growth and development.

The Advancing Growing Stronger campaign encompasses several CIP projects as well as other important customer-centric initiatives.  These projects primarily focus on four different areas:

  • Airport Amenities
  • Modernization
  • Capacity Enhancement
  • Business Development

Below is a list of projects associated with the AGS Campaign. This list does not include all projects to be conducted at Augusta Regional Airport in the forthcoming years.

Airport Revenues – Revenues generated through various Airport operations (e.g., parking, fuel sales, leases. etc.).

Airport Improvement Program (AIP) - Federal Airport Grant Program that collects and disseminates funds to airports for approved projects.  Commercial service airports receive a fixed annual apportionment of AIP

based on its number of enplanements.  Airports may also compete for additional annual discretionary funding.

Customer Facility Charge (CFC) – User fees imposed on rental cars used for the development or upgrade of rental car and/or approved related landside facilities.

Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) - Locally imposed Airport user fees collected from enplaning passengers used for the purpose of funding FAA approved projects. 

Other – Airports also utilize additional funding sources including other federal and state aid programs and various 3rd party financing (e.g., bonds, loans, etc.)

Project Descriptions

Terrazzo Flooring

Completion Date: Winter, 2019

Project Value: $390,000.00

Description: This project will replace most of the carpeting in the terminal building with Terrazzo flooring. Terrazzo flooring provides the benefits of superior appearance and more efficient maintenance. Phase I consisted of installations at the checkpoint exit lane and the main terminal's public waiting area. Phase I of this project cost $65,000 and was completed in Spring of 2018. Phase II of this project is expected to begin 2019 at a budgeted $225,000 and Phase III is expected to begin in 2020 at a budget of $100,000. Phase II consists of areas in the Hold Room and Phase III consists of areas in baggage claim.

Passenger Boarding Bridges

Proposed Completion Date: Spring, 2019

Project Value: $2,000,000.00

Description: This project will add two new/additional passenger boarding bridges. The passenger boarding bridges are the tunnel-type devices that facilitate the transition of aircraft passengers from the plane to the terminal boarding area and vice versa. Benefits of the passenger boarding Bridges includes:

- Safer and more efficient transition of passengers
- Protection from the elements
- Improved accommodations for disabled, wheelchair bound, and limited mobility passengers
- Service and perception upgrades (e.g., first class, elimination of ground boarding, etc.)

Hangar One Renovations

Proposed Completion Date: Spring, 2019

Project Value: $285,000.00

Description: This project will consist of multiple renovations designed to upgrade one of the Airport's existing aircraft hangars. These enhancements are intended to make the hangar more attractive for future business opportunities and based aircraft.

Frequent Flyer Lounge

Proposed Completion Date: Spring, 2019

Project Value: $25,000.00

Description: This project will provide an exclusive area for registered frequent flyers. The room will consist of amenities such as large screen televisions, business services, and snacks.

Parking Toll Plaza Canopies

Proposed Completion Date: Summer, 2019

Project Value: $250,000.00

Description: This project will provide overhead cover and lane status information at the Airport parking toll plaza. Upon completion, parking patrons will reap the benefits of protection from the elements and the facilitation of improved traffic flow, efficiency, and facility utilization.

Military Suite Renovations

Proposed Completion Date: Spring, 2019

Project Value: $15,000.00

Description: This project is a complete renovation of the current Military Hospitality Suite located in the public area of the main terminal building. this project will include fresh infrastructure, modern furniture, and new technology upgrades. This project is primarily funded by donations provided by several participating community agencies.

STEM Building

Proposed Completion Date: Winter, 2019

Project Value: $100,000.00

Description: This project is the renovation of a building located on Airport property. The building will be converted into a learning facility used for the Airport's STEM Project. The building will have a classroom environment to include a lecture setting, several rooms with that of the art simulators, and hands on activities for students to learn more about aviation. This building will also be used as an Airport training class room.

Rental Car Desk Area

Proposed Completion Date: Spring, 2019

Project Value: $28,700.00

Description: This project is the renovation of the counter area by the rental car facilities. The project will include new carpeting and paint.
